Students interested in band or orchestra should plan to join in 6th Grade - no experience is required!

Our band and orchestra programs provide a positive, supportive environment for every student. Both programs teach self control, personal discipline, interpersonal skills and strong character traits. Music education supports success in every other subject. Music literacy supports healthy brain development and artistic expression while improving the culture of the school and larger community. You will have opportunities to perform and travel.

Band

Beginning instrument classes will be offered for all 7th Grade students during the 2021-2022 school year due to COVID 19 interrupting our curriculum. 8th Grade Bands have received straight superior scores at the CBA and CHSAA music festivals since 2016.

Orchestra

Usually, students will need to concurrently enroll in private lessons for stringed instruments if they choose to join orchestra during 7th or 8th Grade. During the 2021-2022 school year, DCCMS will offer beginning string classes to 7th Grade students as well. Our DCCMS 8th Grade Orchestra has received straight superior scores at the CHSAA Music Festival since 2016.

Jazz Band

Students must be enrolled in band to participate. Band & orchestra students may audition to be selected for our rhythm section. Rhythm section instruments include the drum set, piano, guitar and bass guitar. Jazz band is open to 7th & 8th Grade students. 6th Grade students may audition for the band if they have prior experience on an instrument. We perform at school assemblies, school concerts, jazz festivals and more!

Jazz band is suspended until the District COVID 19 restrictions are lifted.

This is a $15 class fee per semester. Instrument rental fees vary.
